Ake Grenvik, MD, PhD, graduated in 1956 from the famous Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. By invitation, he lectured on the topic "Simulation in Medical Education" at a reunion with his classmates during a cruise in the Swedish - Finnish archipelago to the island province of Aland in the Baltic Sea, August 26 - 27, 2006. During his trip to Scandinavia, he also visited the University of Uppsala Medical School where he obtained his PhD 40 years ago. The purpose was to meet with the Uppsala University Hospital administration to discuss the rapid development and importance of simulation training to improve the skills of both physicians and nurses and increase patient safety in our hospitals. Dr. Grenvik helped develop the WISER Institute and continues to be a valuable mentor to all that seek his assistance.
