On Tuesday, September 21st, a group of leading international physicians from the Sultanate of Oman toured WISER as well as the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, making the facility one of a handful worldwide that could become a model for similar facilities throughout the Middle East.
According to Simin Yazdgerdi Curtis of the Pittsburgh Middle East Institute (PMEI), which, along with UPMC, which sponsored the delegation, "The tour is a chance to showcase Pittsburgh as a growing center of healthcare innovation and a model for the future of pediatric care."
A non-profit consortium of prominent Pittsburgh businesses and civic institutions dedicated to promoting Pittsburgh as a "City of the Future," PMEI arranged the tour for key physicians representing the Health Ministry of Oman. The delegation, which included a member of the Omani Royal Family, hoped to begin discussions for the design and construction of Oman’s own pediatric hospital.
The delegation included Her Highness AL SAYYIDA Khoula Julunda Seif Al Said, Pediatric Gastroenterologist; Dr Mohammed Jaffer Mohammed Abdul Rahim, Head of Pediatric Surgery; Dr Salim Nasser Mohammed Al Maskari, Director of Children’s Health and Head of Pediatric Cardiology.
