UPMC sends students to WISER for Shadow Day

The University of Pittsburgh Health Career Scholars Academy sent students to WISER for a Shadow Day experience. The purpose of the event was to introduce Pennsylvania high school students to a wide variety of healthcare careers. Students spent the day at WISER to learn how simulation training is utilized by the academic and clinical practice communities. The students were able to see firsthand how healthcare professionals interact with patients and each other. In addition, the students had the opportunity to observe and participate in a few courses such as the Critical Care Medicine course (designed for 4th year medical students) taught by Dr. Paul Rogers, the Central Venous Cannulation Training course (for practitioners responsible for inserting central lines) taught by Dr. Jason Moore, and the First Five Minutes course (for practicing nurses) taught by Fred Tasota, MSN,RN.
