John O'Donnell receives Ake Grenvik Award for Academic Excellence

John O'Donnell, CRNA, Associate Director of Nursing at WISER, and Director of the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, Nurse Anesthesia Program was the second recipient of the Ake Grenvik Award for Academic Excellence. This award is given to an individual who demonstrates Dr. Grenvik's outstanding leadership and a dedicated commitment toward creative approaches in simulation based education and assessment. Mr. O'Donnell's commitment to simulation based learning is exemplified through his continued leadership, mentoring and program development efforts spanning many years.

Mr. O'Donnell's efforts include many publications, presentations and national leadership posts propelling him to a status as an unquestionable international expert in simulation. Locally his efforts have contributed significantly to the overwhelming successful integration of simulation into the curriculum of the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing undergraduate curriculum as well as the advanced practice programs of the Nurse Anesthetist program at the school.

Mr. O'Donnell was presented the award at the 2nd Annual Wiser Nursing Symposium, which took place December 4th and 5th, 2008 at the Pittsburgh Marriott City Center.
