WISER and UPMC attended the third annual Pennsylvania Governor's Conference for Women at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center on Thursday, September 14, 2006. This was the first time the conference was held in Pittsburgh. Governer Ed Rendell said "This is the first time we sold out. We had to turn people away." The conference attracted 5,000 women seeking to improve themselves personally and professionally. Keynote speakers at the conference included Mia Farrow, Teresa Heinz and Marian Wright Edelman, founder of the Children's Defense Fund. Journalist and author Linda Ellerbee and Frakhonda Hassan, secretary general of the National Council for Women in Egypt, spoke in a morning keynote session. Christine Barton demonstrated Simbaby and all of her capabilities. She educated the attendees on the value of simulation training in healthcare professionals. UPMC employees incorporate simulation training into their continuing education activities to increase patient safety and decrease medical error.
