John Lutz

John Lutz is the Director of Information Technology and Co-Director of Research at the Peter M. Winter Institute for Simulation, Education, and Research (WISER) at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). He provides management and guidance for all software development projects as well as new hardware implementation and information technology support. He works with WISER faculty to develop the various research programs at WISER, and assists in research design, data collection, and analysis. He is the architect of the Simulation Information Management System (SIMS), which WISER uses to manage the facility, deliver educational content, and produce data for research and management. His previous position was the lead senior developer for the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and School of Medicine. John has developed a wide array of applications utilizing web and other platforms, covering all facets of operations for these groups, including clinical and academic education, clinical scheduling and patient information, clinical quality improvement, clinical efficiency, billing and administrative functions, as well as leading the implementation and re-engineering of both Inter- and intranet sites for the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and School of Medicine. John has over 20 years of experience in software engineering, web technologies, and UNIX and Windows system administration. He received his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh.
