WISER is proud to announce one of its satellite centers, the Charles G. Watson Surgical Education Center at UPMC, has become an official FLS Testing Center through the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons for the "hands-on" skills assessment portion of the FLS examination. FLS was designed for surgical residents, fellows and practicing physicians to learn and practice laparoscopic skills to have the opportunity to definitely measure and document those skills. The FLS Test measures cognitive knowledge, case/problem management skills and manual dexterity. The FLS program content has been endorsed by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and is a joint educational offering of SAGES and ACS. FLS is also CME accredited.
The American Board of Surgery (ABS) requires surgeons who are seeking Board Certification in General Surgery to have successfully completed the FLS examination process, in addition to ACLS and ATLS.
The proctors for the FLS skills exam are Maggie Mrozinski, General Surgery Residency Program Coordinator; Sandra Thornburg, General Surgery Residency Administrative Assistant; and Kevin Miracle, Manager of Simulation Services at WISER.
WISER was pleased to work with the Watson Center on this project. Please join WISER in congratulating the Watson Center on the successful completion of the FLS Testing Center process.
