Description: |
The Introduction to Adult Airway Management course utilizes high fidelity human patient simulation to train and assess medical students ability to provide positive pressure ventilation utilizing a facemask, laryngeal mask airway, and endotracheal tube introduced via direct laryngoscopy. Students view videos prior to the course which demonstrate how to properly use the airway devices, practice the skills on our patient simulator supervised by anesthesiology faculty, and then demonstrate that they've attained the skills by successfully completing three brief simulation exercises that require positive pressure ventilation. The SimMan programming allows instructors to estimate students' skill proficiency by measuring time to achieving performance objectives (placing the patient into the sniffing position, for example) as well as measuring tidal volumes and respiratory rates delivered during the simulation exercises. |
